Visiting Ann Arbor

Dan, Annie and I arrived safely in Ann Arbor this past weekend. Annie was great on the car ride up to Michigan and was SO excited to see Mom and Dad. She ran around the house squeaking and happily wagging her tail upon arrival.

On Sunday to get in the Christmas spirit we went to see a matinee of "It's a Wonderful Life" playing at the Michigan Theater.

Then we went to a holiday happy hour at the Wolverine Brew Company tap room where we met up with friends for beer, hot cocoa and a meeting with Santa!

Mom and Dad sat on Santa's lap
We continued our good cheer by putting up the Christmas tree and decorating it which listening to Johnny Mathis' Christmas record and Joe Cocker (RIP).

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving here in Springfield. We were invited over to the Patton-Allans where we joined their family and friends for a delicious feast.

Ray's brother, sister-in law and nephew joined us from Athens, Georgia. Kerry's parents came from Georgia and Ray's parents arrived from California.

On Friday Dan, Annie and I drove down to Roaring River State Park where we went for a long hike along the river and then up through the woods. After our hike we drove to Noel where we dropped off our Christmas cards with a volunteer at the post office who stamps them with the Noel Christmas stamps.

Annie found lots of good sticks in the woods
This year we are thankful for our terrific friends and family and our wonderful dog :-).

Tree Lighting on the Square

Last weekend we went downtown and met up with some friends for the lighting of the town square Christmas tree. There was an all-tuba band playing Christmas songs and there were free horse-drawn carriage rides. The lighting of the tree did not go off without a hitch though. The person in charge of flipping the switch prematurely turned on the lights before they did the little countdown so the mayor was giving some remarks and then in the middle of his little talk the lights went on - oops! They did a quick countdown for the kids anyway.

After the lighting ceremony we watched "Birdman" an interesting movie that got mixed reviews from the Livesay household.

As it's starting to get colder here Annie has been bundling up:

Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Fall, Y'all

We've been enjoying a beautiful fall here in the Ozarks and have been busy with some autumnal adventures, such as apple picking, pumpkin carving and leaf-admiring :-).

Fourth of July in Williamsburg

Dan's favorite tree in Williamsburg.  Like him, it's very tall.  It's also gnarly.

The former Home Economics Cottage for African-American students during segregation in Williamsburg, and Dan's temporary home in July.

Mary's favorite tree in Williamsburg.  Like her, it's pretty funky.

A couple of animals "horsing" around.  They wished us a "mare"-ey Fourth of July.

These words actually came out of Mary's mouth after capturing this scene: "I've always wanted to take a photo of colonial hats swaying in the breeze."  She claimed to be completely serious about that.  I'll let you be the judge.

Dan poses for a metaphorical composition on American Independence: walls dividing subjects, gateways open to new possibilities, freedoms to sport some kickin' flip-flops.

Dan's Birthday weekend in Virginia

Today is Dan's 34th birthday! We celebrated all weekend in Virginia :-). We visited some of our favorite shops in Williamsburg:
Dan peeking in the window of Mermaid books
Toasted with refreshments at our favorite Colonial Tavern:

Toured through the Farmer's Market on DOG street where we saw over 20 dogs parading up and down:

We went to Yorktown and walked along the beach and the boardwalk:

We enjoyed lunch at one of our favorite old spots, the Williamsburg Winery:

We went to the York River State Park and walked along fossil beach looking for fossils and hopping over logs:

Happy Birthday to a wonderful, thoughtful, terrific guy!

After visiting my parents and lots of friends in Ann Arbor I took the Amtrak to South Bend to see Anne, Zack, Phoebe and my god-daughter, Maya. We had lots of fun playing and catching up.

Then as I made my way home to Annie and Dan I stopped in LaGrange and spent the night at the Bairds. Katherine and I had fun hanging out in the Gazebo until late and Molly, their dog, spent the night by my side in the gazebo.
It was a whirlwind trip and wonderful to see everyone!

Old Faithful going off faithfully as it has since old times.
Geyser rivulets

Hot Spring pools surrounding Old Faithful

Mary learned the hard way that these hot springs were off limits.  Yeouch!

An unwatched geyser will still go off.  Fortunately we caught Old Faithful going off a second time.

Lower Falls.  The photos practically take themselves, which is actually really bad for the camera's battery.

Large spring run-off.

Mary "falls" in love with the liquid tumbling down behind her.
